Federal HVAC Tax Credit—for Equipment Purchased and Installed 2018 – 2021
In December 2020, the U.S. government renewed the 25C tax credit for high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment. If you qualify for any of the federal HVAC tax credits, then you may be eligible to receive credit on your next tax return by claiming the purchase on your taxes.
What it covers:
- Up to 10% of the cost to $500, or a specific amount from $50 to $300
- $300 maximum credit available for qualifying central Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps, Packaged Units and Ductless Mini-Split Systems
- $150 maximum credit available for qualifying Furnaces and Boilers
Qualification details:
Equipment must be installed in your main home owned in the United States; rentals or new construction do not qualify. The tax credit has other limitations. Homeowners should consult with their tax advisor for applicability
Federal Energy Efficient Tax Credit—2021 Status
Under the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 which was signed in December 2020, the U.S. Government renewed the nonbusiness energy property credit available for both 2018 and 2019. Tax credits for non-business energy property are now available for purchases placed in service through December 31, 2021.
